Roaches

Roaches are one of the most common pests in Southeast Texas and are one of the most feared pest as well. These tenacious insects have been around for over millions of years. Their ability to reproduce rapidly and often enables them to develop resistance to pesticides. The two most common ways roaches gain entrance into a home or business are either transported in or through a crack or crevice from the exterior. Roaches enjoy and need what people need and enjoy - food, moisture and shelter.

American Cockroach

The American Cockroach is typically 1 3/8 - 2 1/8" long with a reddish brown coloring. The American Cockroach is commonly found in residences but are also found in restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, food processing plants, hospitals and many other businesses and industries. A German Cockroach is anywhere from a light brown to tan in color and 1/2 - 5/8" long. German Cockroaches are not only a nuisance but are the most common of the cockroaches. They can bring illness and allergic reactions in many people. Although their preferences are dark warm places they can be found throughout structures. They are found primarily in kitchens and bathrooms but can be found in rooms where people eat. Oriental Cockroaches are about 1 - 1 1/4" long and are a shiny black color. An Oriental Cockroach, also known as Black Beetle, Water Bug, or Shad Roach is worldwide. Survives outdoors very well found under stones, debris and leaf piles even in freezing weather. They usually enter through door thresholds, under sliding glass doors, along utility pipes, air ducts and floor drains. Smokey Brown Cockroaches are brownish-black in color and usually 1 - 1 1/4" long. Smokey Brown Cockroaches prefer moist areas such as; wood piles, tree holes, ground covered plants, mulch, soffits and eaves of attics. They usually enter during the night through holes or small areas where lights shine through. Light is an attraction for this species.
