In 1957 Entomologist Bill Clark started a small pest control business in Beaumont, Texas. 60 years later, that business has grown tremendously, thanks to the support of Southeast Texas. It is now the largest pest control company in our area and one of the largest independently owned pest control companies in the state.
Bill Clark was born and raised in East Texas on a small farm near Ben Wheeler, about 20 miles North West of Tyler. He joined the Navy after high school and then went on to Texas A&M University. Shortly after graduating from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor degree in Entomology, Clark set his eyes on Beaumont to be a prime location for of his new pest control business. Beaumont had a high population of pests, the right climate for pest populations, in addition to having very few pest control providers, it all added up to be a great fit. Clark moved to Beaumont, rented a building on 18th Street and Laurel, joined the Chamber of Commerce and got to work!
In the beginning it was a one-man company, Clark would sell in the morning- often changed clothes at the nearest service station, then went back to the home or business to render the service. From there Clark went on to grow the business. One way he did this was by becoming very involved in the community and organizations. At one time in the 1960’s he was simultaneously president of six different organizations. Also during this era he did a live call-in show during the noon hour on KTRM five days a week.
From the “school-of-hard-knocks” Clark learned a bit about what to do and what not to do. Along the way he realized he was in the “people business”. He knew he had to have good people to obtain and retain clients. In a profession wrought with turnover, Bill Clark Pest Control employs more than 70 highly trained Bugsperts with almost 600 years of combined expertise. They also have two degreed Entomologists on staff. Many of the employees have worked for Mr. Clark for 10+ years and have a sense of pride in telling others where they work. With that type of staff they really do have the answers for your pest problems.
Over the years the treatment process has greatly improved to help home owners and businesses remain bug free. Certified technicians use the latest technology to help Southeast Texans maintain a bug free lifestyle.
Throughout the years Clark and Bill Clark Pest Control have received numerous awards and honors. Some of which include the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas Torch Award for Market Place Ethics in 2003 and 2015, he was also inducted into the BBB Role of Fame in 2013. Clark received the Dr. Robert A. Swerdlow Small Business Person of the Year in 2012 by the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce and has received a plaque in recognition of his long standing membership of over 55 years with the Chamber of Commerce.
Clark and his wife Casey have six children and will celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary in March. Clark is still very involved in the Entomology Department at Texas A&M, where he has been instrumental in raising research funds and has established numerous endowment scholarships.
